All,
I was on the last pelagic of the season ably led by Dave Pereksta and Todd McGrath. Although bird numbers remain very low, we had good quality both in the birds and non-avian species. Coupled with the relatively calm seas, this made for an enjoyable trip.
The bird highlights were a Red- billed Tropicbird in the Channel only a few miles off the Ventura coast and excellent views of a Guadalupe Murrelet south of gap between SRI and SCI. Kudos to captain Joel for doing a great approach job to finally get close to this one. We also had consensus best-ever looks at a Cassin's Auklet that refrained from flying off or constantly diving. The commonest species were Fulmars, Red Phalatope, and BV Shearwater.
Non-avian highlight were a Guadalupe Fur Seal, three Striped Marlin, lots of flying fish and a Salmon Shark, along with the usual Humpback Whales and Common Dolphins.
