Hi Birders,
Apologies for a belated report from last Wednesday's San Pedro House
birding walk. The delay might be appropriate as we had a very slow walk
with 9 participants finding only 25 species. It seems that the flocks of
sparrows from the walk 2 weeks ago moved on as we had very few sparrows.
With only 25 species, there weren't very many highlights, but the star of
the show was the Western Screech-owl that has returned to the roosting hole
in the big cottonwood behind the house. I suspect numbers will rise as the
wintering species continue to arrive and maybe as we get better access to
the river trails if the rain ever slows down.
The Friends of the San Pedro River leads birding walks every 2nd and 4th
Wednesday of the month. For November the walks start at 7:00a. The walks
leave from the BLM’s San Pedro House south of State Route 90 just west of
the San Pedro River. We walk about 4km and are out for about three hours.
Bring your own binoculars, a hat and water.
The next San Pedro River birding walk is on Wednesday, November 11 at 7:00a.
