Observers:

Visitors:
31 visitors at the south lookout, interacted with 11. The only ones who
weren't blown away by the autumn colors today were the ones unfortunate
enough to come during the morning fog.

Weather:
Foggy until around 10am local time, becoming hazy again late afternoon.
50-64 degrees F, light SW wind gusting up to 11 briefly.

Raptor Observations:
Bald eagle (5): 1205, 1210, 1217, 1235, 1412

In the headwind today, the flight was dominated by big black birds, most
notably the season's first migrant kettles of black vultures! And among
those, I spotted an individual that was tagged by Hawk Mountain! It had a
yellow tag on the left wing with the number 484 and has since been reported
to their website.

Also, the last bald eagle of the day couldn't have come at a better time.
There were three families with kids, all of whom were looking for birds.
Thus far they'd been satiated by the vultures putting on a show in front of
the beautiful foliage, but one hopeful little boy thought every single one
was an eagle. Imagine the joy on his face (and everyone else's too) when a
spectacular adult came right over the lookout!

Non-raptor Observations:
A flyover American pipit was the best bird of the day - and for a moment,
it was a good reminder for me that red crossbills, who call with a similar
cadence, are already on the move en masse at hawkwatches on the Great
Lakes. Also decent robin, purple finch, and siskin movement like the last
couple days. A couple cooperative winter wrens were my favorite sightings
today.

Predictions:
Partly sunny, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 67. Northwest
wind 5 to 15 mph. Should be a good north lookout day - but if you visit I
expect you to be in costume.
