Subject: [Tweeters] Protection Island Land Transfer and Steve Hampton
Hi folks. I was made aware yesterday that Steve Hampton was here accusing me of racism as it relates to the controversy over the proposed land transfer of Protection Island and Dungeness Spit Wildlife Refuges. In the interest of brevity and keeping on topic on this birding discussion board, I chose to respond to his ridiculous charges on my web site, The Olympic Peninsula Environmental News at www.olyopen.com which I have run since 2007. You can find an in-depth critique of Mr. Hamptons outrageous nonsense and facts to back them up there.

As a young photographer I helped Lorna Campion (now Smith), Eleanor Stopps, Helen Engle and Hazel Wolf, among others at Seattle Audubon document Protection Island back around 1980. I have also worked for the Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe and produced two films for them.
I have a long history in the Pacific Northwest environmental world with a record of supporting Tribal interests at almost every turn. This time, I simply have an issue with this one proposal.
You can see why at my web site.

I'm very sorry to see a man as well respected for his birding expertise try and smear others that don't agree with him as racists. It is a truly pathetic tactic.
