Today, around 1:30 pm Richard Mix and I saw what we thought was a Wilson’s
Snipe near the marshy upstream part of the creek running through the
garden. We saw it from a wooden bridge as it flushed below us out of the
marshy greenery in the shallow water. We saw it for maybe two seconds
before it landed again farther under the leaves overhanging the creek. We
were able to make out the vertical striping on its back. Another surprise
was a Hooded Merganser on Lake Anza.
