Here's a reminder of the upcoming SDOU meeting in Yankton on November 6-8 (next weekend!). Please register by THIS FRIDAY Oct. 30 to get included in the totals for the Saturday evening banquet. Looking forward to a great weekend of birding, research presentations, catching up with fellow birders from around the state, and hopefully meeting some new people as well! Our general membership and board meetings will occur late afternoon on Saturday the 7th.
In bird news, today at lunchtime I sped up to Bucher Prairie just north of Sioux Falls for a brief walk, and was surprised to find a single Smith's Longspur with a few Horned Larks in the harvested field on the north side of the prairie. Only the second one I've ever seen.
