Subject: [EBB-Sightings] Channel Island orange crowned warbler question
I'm puzzled over a ebird report today of the Channel Island subspecies of Orange crowned warbler with this comment- "Pretty clearcut example of the sordida subspecies, with dark streaky body, and heavily marked undertail. Creekside Park is a known overwintering spot for these birds."
Why would a warbler come north for the winter?  The National zoo website says "We do not know exactly where individuals that breed on the Channel Islands go after their February-June breeding season, but most leave the islands to spend their "winters" (July-January) on the coast of southern California and northern Baja."
