Regarding the ramifications of the current discussion on Tweeters about resource or natural area co-management, I suggest that a recent book written by Cal Flyn would be informative. Cal discusses the meaning of wilderness from many cultural and economic perspectives, but there is also a constant theme contrasting modern, largely white perspectives about ownership, management or conservation of parks (etc.), versus perspectives of those who live, or formerly lived, in these special places. Even if you are knowledgeable about such issues, the book is extremely well written, including elements of travel to fascinating landscapes, and provides real-world insights throughout.
