Marine forecast is looking sweet for Sunday's half-day trip, with seas
less than 4 ft at 13 seconds - very calm!
Whales and dolphins have been abundant and putting on a great show
recently, with breaching Humpbacks, fluking Blues, and three species of
Dolphins riding the bow wave of the Kraken. We anticipate more of that
on Sunday. This might be the last good opportunity to see the many
Humpback Whales that are feeding here right now, as they will soon begin
departing for Mexico.
Seabirds have also been abundant, especially Shearwaters and Fulmars. We
had seven species of Shearwater ten days ago, including Flesh-footed,
Manx, and over a thousand Black-vented Shearwaters that have come up
here looking for food. Also two Laysan Albatrosses and two Tufted
Puffins, one of which repeatedly circled the boat, giving everyone great
views. Multiple South Polar Skuas as well.
To join in this fun, sign up at https://noyopelagics.com/ so the Captain
knows how many people are coming. The Kraken will depart at 9 AM (note
this will be Standard Time, the clocks change that morning) and we plan
to return around 2 PM (but can be delayed by whales on the return
trip!). Cost is $125 per person. This is the last scheduled half-day
trip for the year, so don't miss out!
