In the foothills at Bobcat Natural Area near Loveland. Gliding over the foothills fairly low, these foothills have scattered pondo's but generally not very dense brush. small size for hawk basic impressions: broad wings (not necessarily long), head did not extend at all beyond wings, strongly banded tail was fanned and not long, nothing obvious in coloring pattern of underwings and belly (dark and white)
Coopers is an obvious candidate. But the tail was not long and it seemed unlikely environment and flight path. Too small for harrier and no white band on top of tail, also the gliding was smoother. And it should have been over the grasslands below the hills. Seemed a bit big for sharpie and I think the tail fan was rounded not a triangle.
So I'm thinking Broad-winged. Would that environment and gliding fit? Thoughts
