Subject: [SFBirds] recent misc. observations around SF
Here are some observations I found of note in the past week or so for 2nd
half of October:

Green-winged Teal - 3 were on North Lake Merced in the morning below the
"Mesa" Cormorant Rookery, 6 were on the Impound Lake the same day in the
afternoon 10/19. In general any non-Mallard/Ruddy Ducks are uncommon on
Lake Merced

Common Gallinule - the hatch year Gallinule found in the first half of
October was still on the Impound Lake on 10/19

Bonaparte's Gull - a 2nd cycle Bonaparte's Gull was dip feeding around the
aerators on South Lake Merced 10/19

Green Heron - Pine Lake 10/23

Swainson's Thrush - getting on the late side for this species, a single
Swainson's Thrush was calling at dawn on Corona Hill 10/22

Evening Grosbeak - a single Evening Grosbeak flew over Corona Hill in the
morning 10/21, the number of reports has declined the last few days but
they are still around

Red Crossbills - these continue to be noted a various sites the past week:
7 over Corona Hill 10/16
1 flying over Edgewood Center a block from Pine Lake in the afternoon 10/19
1 over Elk Glen GGP and 8 landing briefly in Pines on Corona Hill 10/20
most unexpected a flock of at least 15 coming to a large Monterey Pine at
Winston and Junipero Serra in the afternoon 10/22
at least one flying over Greystone Terrace 10/23 not far from Tank Hill

Nashville Warbler - getting on the later side for a migrant one was in
Eucalyptus along Twin Peaks Blvd off Portola 10/17

Northern Yellow Warbler - getting on the later side for a migrant one was
at McCopping Square with Yellow-rumps 10/17

Palm Warblers - a continuing Palm Warbler, found by Kevin Liberg a couple
days earlier was in the old 49ers Auxiliary parking section of Candlestick
State Rec Area 10/19, about an hour later another was in fennel at the Last
Port unit of the Rec Area about 3/4 mile to the east of the first Palm

Western Tanager - getting on the later side for a migrant one was on Corona
Hill 10/22, my previous sighting was all the way back on 10/2

Happy Fall Birding,
