Bake Oven Knob 2 miles North of Germansville, Pennsylvania, USA Daily Raptor Counts: Oct 22, 2026 -------------------------------------------------------------------
Observation start time: 07:30:00 Observation end time: 16:30:00 Total observation time: 9 hours
Official Counter: Andre Vu
Observers: Lizzie Sgambelluri
Visitors: 22 visitors today, mostly the final group of kids from Salisbury Middle School. With lots of ELL kids in this group, we had fun talking about Spanish names for birds. Aquila dorado/golden eagle was my fav. Joined for an hour by excellent spotter Lizzie Sgambelluri.
Weather: 47-62 degrees F, nice NNW wind all day with gusts up to 24, and clear blue skies all day - minus one really interesting cloud formation that looked like a waterfall flowing from one cumulus cloud into another.
Raptor Observations: Bald eagle (1): 1006a Golden eagle (1): 1155a
Nice variety today with the NNW wind, with decreasing numbers of sharpies but increasing presence of red-shouldered and red-tailed. A beautiful adult golden eagle I almost missed as it blew by was a treat as always.
Non-raptor Observations: Field trip kids got a nice look at a blackpoll warbler, and were even more fascinated when I told them the oceanic migration it was headed toward. Purple finches and siskins continue to bounce around.
Predictions: Sunny, with a high near 59. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Lehigh Gap Nature Center (<mail...>) Bake Oven Knob information may be found at: www.lgnc.org
