Mountain Plover (Anarhynchus montanus) (1) CONFIRMED
- Reported Oct 20, 2026 10:50 by Roger Hammer
- Villa Creek--Estero Bluffs State Park, San Luis Obispo, California

- Comments: "Walked past this bird which was likely sitting low both coming and going as I went to the end of the ponded creek. I was very focused on the northern section where Ken had gotten the bird previously. I walked back skunked. I pondered returning after birding for an hour headed south looking for the PGPL. Happy to see 45 kids from Kern Co come to enjoy lessons on coastal biology but thought they would bump the bird. They didn't run all around flushing wildlife at all. Marlin ventured in while I ate my lunch and told me the bird was there. It was. Hiked back in with Karen and Sue. Karen gave landmarks where she got the bird the previous day. It was nearby. Solid."

Most recent eBird report of this species at this eBird hotspot: 12/5/2025.
Most recent eBird report for SLO County: 5/6/2026 (Laguna Lake).
Olive-brown crown and back; buffy-white throat, breast and belly; brownish streaks on the breast and on the flanks. One individual had decidedly darker streaks in these areas and was darker overall. All had white eye arcs; dark line in front of eyes; whitish supercilium; bright yellow undertail coverts; pointed bill. All birds were doing a lot of tail pumping as they moved about, also jumping up at times, probably fly-catching.
