Subject: [NHBirds] Black-backed Woodpecker in Jefferson
Brad Meiklejohn and I watched a female Black-backed Woodpecker at the Pondicherry National Wildlife Refuge in Jefferson on Wednesday morning. The bird was foraging in some dead balsam fir trees at the first junction of the Little Cherry Pond Trail. We also saw a family of four river otters at Cherry Pond. The Tamarack are a gorgeous golden color at this time of year.
I had 6 ruffed grouse in our crab apple tree yesterday afternoon eating crab apples. This is an annual event for them to feed on the seven trees I planted years ago.
