Visitors: 155 including 80 students from Wilkins Elementary in Amherst, NH, who enjoyed seeing a Bald Eagle up close! Thanks to Phil from MA for visiting.
Weather: Moderately warm day with temps 46-55 F and clear blue skies. Light to moderate breeze out of the NE all day, but a bit hazy midday.
Raptor Observations: A productive afternoon for Red-shouldered Hawks and a smattering of other species. A young Peregrine stole the show in early afternoon as it swooped around the summit, playing with ravens. Later, a pair of Merlins appeared, darting past us and swooping at Gina several times. A few sharpies also made close passes. A juvenile Northern Harrier at 515 pm was the last bird of the day, close to the west. A juvenile American Goshawk sparred briefly with ravens over North Pack late in the day, perching in the spruces there for several minutes.
Non-raptor Observations: Canada Goose - 49 Pine Siskin - 52 (single flock of 40) American Crow - 6 migrating Monarch: 1/844 (late)
Predictions: A continuation of similar conditions, so expect more red-shoulders and sharpies, and hopefully, more falcons and eagles! ======================================================================== Report submitted by Phil Brown (<brown...>) Pack Monadnock Raptor Migration Observatory information may be found at: www.harriscenter.org
