Evening Grosbeak (Hesperiphona vespertina) (2)
- Reported Oct 19, 2026 07:47 by Amanda Gaskin
- Islay Creek Campground--Montana de Oro SP, San Luis Obispo, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-120.8838502&<ll...>,-120.8838502 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S403834849 - Comments: "When I arrived around 7:30, I could hear what Merlin identified as Evening Grosbeaks repeatedly calling. While not familiar with their call off-hand, I was able to compare what I was hearing to and what Merlin ID’d as Evening Grosbeak to what All About Birds has as their flight calls. Unfortunately, I did not see them or photograph them. Ordinarily, I would not report a rare bird like this with such little substantiation (no photo, didn’t see it) but I heard their calls for over 30 minutes, not just once or twice and I know they have already been reported here. I am convinced they were there. Unfortunately as I approached where I was hearing them the loudest, the calls ceased. I stayed for several hours, hoping they’d return but no luck. I will go back tomorrow AM and try again for photo. I did record and save their vocalizations and will try to isolate and upload from Merlin."
