Subject: [SFBirds] Red-naped Sapsucker and Summer Tanager
All,

The Sapper was found yesterday morning at Elk Glen Lake by Travis Smith. It continued today in the same and only valley oak tree and could stick around for a while.

The Summer Tanager was also found yesterday morning just about 13 blocks to the east in the Botanical Garden. Nancy  caught it bathing in the fountain by the main entrance. It continued this evening in the South Africa section where I heard what I thought was it but the calls were only slurred two syllable pittuk’s and I was listening for a nice three syllable pit ti tuk. Luckily I got eyes on it in the conifers along the east edge of the Conifer Lawn. It proceeded to perch on a branch below an American Robin and I was surprised to see just how much smaller the tanagers are.

Thanks Nancy for my 300th California bird of the year! It has been such a fun Fall.

Good Birding,
Dan
