There are thousands and thousands of snowgeese present in Skagit. Not sure why you think they were migrantd flying through. Hunting season started on Saturday, so they are likely spending more time on the water, but I saw a massive flock at hwy 20 and La Conner Whitney about an hour ago.

Subject: [Tweeters] There were 3 or 4 ...
... flights of Cackling Geese flying N/NW over Wylie Slough today -
all about 80-100 birds.
And a similar sized flight of Canada Geese also going the same
direction.
No sign of any Snow Geese today - so the ones reported on
Friday were "migrants
moving thru Skagit County".
Also seen today at Wiley were Pied-billed Grebe, 1 Belted
Kingfisher, a couple of
Killdeer, several shovelers and Mallards, and lots of Starlings,
Red-winged Blackbirds,
and other such "expected". We saw one muskrat for our only mammal of
the day.
There are 7 stacks of 25 each "sleepers" (large wood timbers about 10
feet long) in the
parking lot and they had done some work near the boat ramp at the other
lot. Don't
really understand what the sleepers were/are there for ... ???
