What a great day up here in northern Coos County from Dixville to Milan! After an early morning text from my brother that black scoters were on Akers pond we started our 8.5 hrs of birding. Besides the local waterfowl highlights for the day were: black scoters on Akers pond, white-winged scoters on lake Gloriette, horned grebe and black scoters at Pontook, 9 pectoral sandpipers on Rt 16 along the Androscoggin river, and over 200 ring-necked ducks in the cove on Mt pond rd. We also had a rough-legged hawk at Pontook which was a great bonus! All in all one of the best fall birding days so far this season!
Happy Birding!
