Hi OKBIRDS,
About an hour ago, I followed up on Brian Marra and Grace Huffman’s PHILADELPHIA VIREO report from late morning. Once reaching their pinned location on the paved bike trails, I used playback of PHVI calls and two came in together! They stayed high in the mature cottonwoods and were generally silent but investigating the audio recordings. This spot is just west of the Council Rd. overpass south of I-40 along N. Canadian River. The area can be accessed via the west river bike trails by parking along frontage rd. west of Rockwell Ave. exit. It’s about a mile hike west from where I parked on service rd. Thanks to Brian and Grace for getting the word out and sharing the exact location! Not only are PHVI quite rare in fall migration in the OKC area but it’s also getting late in the season. What a fabulous weather day for birding! Couldn’t ask for better conditions.
