Jack,
Goldfinches are year-round residents of north Georgia. They are winter residents in the southern half of the state. They have summer range up around the US/Canada border. So each summer and fall, the migratory part of the population will be moving around, from summer to winter ranges and vice versa.
Goldfinches tend to be seen in flocks in early summer. They they'll isolate in pairs, as they breed in late summer (around August, I think) rather than in the springtime. To my knowledge, this is uniqute to this species.

We had an amazing amount of goldfinches this summer. Sometimes around 20 all at once at the feeder. They are now gone. Do goldfinches migrate? Will they come back? Thanks.
