Bake Oven Knob 2 miles North of Germansville, Pennsylvania, USA Daily Raptor Counts: Oct 16, 2026 -------------------------------------------------------------------
Observation start time: 10:30:00 Observation end time: 15:15:00 Total observation time: 4.75 hours
Official Counter: Rick Morrissey
Observers:
Visitors: Three, pretty much back to back, then total serenity. An interesting experience indeed.
Weather: A total ridge top fog that was predicted to subside by mid-day which ironically did not happen until I was off the mountain and headed home. The low temperature was 59F, the high temperature of 69F was at 1300 EST. Winds were SSW 3-6 mph before noon, then 2-3 mph in the afternoon. Visibility never changed, about 500 feet.
Raptor Observations: Two Sharpshin Hawks at 1130 EST were hunting on the rim of the bowl, a female and male based on size for the only activity for the day.
Non-raptor Observations: I could hear Ravens, active Pileated WPs, and a few flocks of geese which told me that away from the South Lookout there was 'life' out there.
Predictions: Cloudy in the morning, then becoming mostly sunny. Much cooler with highs in the lower 50's. North winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Wow, buckle and button up, could be a great flight day! ======================================================================== Report submitted by Lehigh Gap Nature Center (<mail...>) Bake Oven Knob information may be found at: www.lgnc.org
