Clark's Nutcracker (Nucifraga columbiana) (6)
- Reported Oct 15, 2026 13:00 by Jesse Pline CWR
- Santa Cruz Island--Scorpion Canyon Campgrounds, Santa Barbara, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-119.5645389&<ll...>,-119.5645389 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S402644424 - Comments: "1x1 count of single group which flew up from the tree at (34.0486090, -119.5640558) and then westward towards Lower Scorpion Campground, lost sight of them quickly and didn't see where they flew to.
Botched the photos as my camera was set to shady settings and pinpoint focus but I did get audio when I first observed them.
Medium-sized pale gray corvids with bright white undertail coverts and black wings. White tails with black central rectrices. Harsh, grating "kraaaaaa" calls.
Likely part of the widespread irruption of montane species this fall including CLNU."

Small straight bill and the streaking pinched into two dark whiskers near throat. Streaking and lack of substantial white in wing rules out NOMO. It was on the ground in the chaparral and did not come back out for photos. Ocellated thrasher also ruled out."
