Subject: [sbcobirding] N coast Common Murre mortality update
I walked Jalama Beach today to N end, and counted 5+ freshly dead CoMu, so
I checked back on all my Jalama, Surf-Ocean and R Guadalupe Beach walks
since the 1st report on Sep 01. In 10 visits to these beaches, I've
recorded over 30 dying or dead birds, both adults and juveniles, none with
oiling. This is the first such outbreak in the 10 or so years I've been
walking these beaches. Plus, other birders have reported dead or dying
birds, including a few from the South coast.
Save for couple of dead gulls (normal), no dead or ill birds of other
species showed up, so it seems to me to be some species-specific CoMu
desease . Any suggestions? Thanks
