Total observation time: 6.5 hours

Official Counter: Andre Vu

Observers: Brett White, Travis Rennig

Visitors:
26 visitors today, including another field trip from Salisbury Middle
School led by Mr. Byer. The kids today were super into it! Every vulture
had them pointing, shouting out directions and field marks, ooh-ing and
ahh-ing, the works. Unfortunately not much in the way of migrating raptors,
but we did see a couple red tails, sharpies, and a very distant eagle.
Joined today by Brett White and Travis Dennig.

Weather:
55-63 degrees F, cloudy to completely clear in the afternoon, light east
wind that briefly was northeast in the morning.

Raptor Observations:
Bald eagle (13): 0918i, 0918a, 0918a, 1142i, 1145i, 1201i, 1201i, 1201a,
1201a, 1213u, 1220a, 1220a, 1256i

Not many birds in the tailwind today. Flight seemed much more skewed to
heavier birds, despite conventional wisdom saying theyre more inclined to
move on windier days.

Non-raptor Observations:
HORNED LARK flyover! I had merlin running and caught one calling,
vindicating my suspected horned lark call a few days ago. I also had a
small, short tailed, heavy billed passerine flying awkwardly that I
immeadiately thought looked like a Nelsons sparrow or something similar,
but not nearly a good enough look to say. One unidentified shorebird as
well.

Also, Brett saw a huge black bear while hiking down near the north lookout!
Travis and I noticed some snake activity on the trail on the way up, and a
fritillary sp. briefly stopped by.

Predictions:
South wind with rain likely throughout the morning and later afternoon.
