Several yrs ago ('22) had a similar fall visitor-a yellow -shafted intergrade. This morning, scuffling in leaf litter under my fence line hedge, was a glorious Red-shafted intergrade . Bold red malar PLUS red nape crescent. Sibley's calls it as Red-shafted intergrade AdM.
One Red-breasted Nuthatch continues intermittently. Thrice-daily water visits of YRWA in much higher numbers than previous several years. 2-3 each RCKIs, OCWA, and TOWA appear together at grd. drip.
The felt-leaved native composite, yellow-blossomed Telegraph Weed left standing now is now feeding Bushtits and CBCH gorging on seeds. So glad I saved a large swath from the weed-eater crew this summer. Thrives with limited moisture; here in Nipomo it sprouts with just heavy fog in disturbed soils like road verges and vacant lots. (and presumably, along old telegraph line rights of way)
