Weather: Partly cloudy quickly becoming mostly cloudy with a brief thunderstorm in the midday. After the rain conditions remained gloomy with calm winds. Some brief periods of sun late. Winds light to moderate from the west.
Raptor Observations: The calm winds meant raptors took a bit to get going, but sunny conditions were favorable for raptor activity. The clouds slowed the flight and the rain shut it down for several hours. A few raptors got up late, but totals remained low.
Turkey Vulture were most numerous with seven, followed by sharpies with 6. Highlights of the morning included a close flyby of an adult male Northern Harrier and an extended look at a juvenile Peregrine Falcon. A juvenile Broad-winged Hawk was the afternoon highlight.
Predictions: TOMORROW: Partly cloudy becoming overcast. High 66F. Winds NE shifting E at 5-10mph. Conditions are looking best for the mid-morning when the wind is more northerly and there is more sun, but could slow as the afternoon goes on. Expect light to moderate migration.
FRIDAY: Cloudy early with partial sunshine late. High 76F. Winds SSW at 10-15mph. Unfavorable conditions overall. Expect light migration.
SATURDAY: Cloudy early then partly cloudy. High 53F. Winds N at 10-20mph. Classic post-coldfront fall hawk watching winds. Expect moderate to good migration. ======================================================================== Report submitted by David Brown (<davidebrownpa...>) Ashland Nature Center information may be found at: www.delnature.org
