Just wanted to pass along that a juvenile Purple Gallinule carcass was recovered in York, Nebraska, on 2 October 2026 by a Nebraska Game and Parks Commission Conservation Officer, apparently dying as a consequence of a window strike. This is now the 3rd Nebraska record and only the second supported by objective documentation (i.e., photos, measurements, recordings, specimen) and it will be the first specimen record, as it will soon be leaving my freezer and will be donated to the state museum. The other records include a description-only record from Adams Co. 2 May 1946 and another from Hastings 13 September 2019. Interestingly, the Hastings record involved another NGPC Conservation Officer "rescuing" another juvenile that found itself trapped in a Hastings school courtyard. That bird was photographed and released at a nearby wetland.
