Hi Everyone, I saw a possible short-eared owl fly over NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena at about 11:15. I barely got binoculars on it out my office window before the bird disappeared behind a building. The colors, size, flight style, and silhouette looked good for a female short-eared owl and it clearly wasn't a buteo, falcon, accipiter, vulture, eagle, osprey, or heron. The principal source of possible confusion might have been a barn owl, but it didn't look right for that either. Alas, I wasn't able to get any pictures and I was already late for a meeting when I saw it, so I wasn't able to dash outside for a better look. If you're in the area near Hahamongna Watershed Park, be on the watch for it! It went by at an elevation of about 200 feet and was heading southeast from JPL's building 264 toward Hahamongna.
