Subject: [nysbirds-l] N.Y. County, NYC - Sun., 10/11 - Nelsons, Clay-col., Vesper & other sparrows, Or.-cr. & 17 other warblers, etc.
New York County -in N.Y. City- including Governors, Randalls, Roosevelt and Manhattan Islands, and adjacent waters and sky -
Sunday, October 11 -

Rains did not keep all birders indoors all day on Sunday, and depending on exactly where in this county, rain did not start at all until a few hours past first light, with the heaviest rain quite a lot later. There was not much if any effect to birds so far noted for this county, from the passage of the ex-tropical, ex-hurricane related weather system, in terms of odd or unexpected birds turning up.

Randalls Island was the site for Nelsons Sparrow on Sunday, at the salt marsh edge of the Bronx Kill at the n. edge of the island, with multiple observers on a Linnaean Society of New York field trip, and with many other migrants seen. Large numbers of Laughing Gulls also showed there, flocking especially later in the day in the storm-remnant rain.

At Governors Island, a Clay-colored Sparrow was re-found on Sunday, as well as Vesper Sparrow and a selection of other sparrows continuing, some species of which are also ongoing elsewhere around the county.

An Orange-crowned Warbler was seen and photographed on Roosevelt Island on Sunday, as well as some other migrants being found there. At least 18 species of warblers were noted for all of the county on Sunday.

At Central Park, an American Wigeon, multiple Green-winged Teal, Wood Ducks and Ruddy Ducks, N. Shovelers and other waterfowl were all ongoing on Sunday, while various other migrants around the park included lingering Wood Thrush and a wide selection of other songbirds.

Some guided not-for-profit bird walks proceeded on Sunday, ahead of or thru the wet weather here. Thanks to multiple observers and photographers for sightings, alerts, and reports, from many locations of this county.

Good birding,
