Hi Paul et al.,I am the guilty party who was trying to get the word out asap from one of only two reliable spots on the mountain with cell phone coverage. Sorry to all that I offended or confused. When entering species into eBird, I always save time using the four-digit code and didn't realize that all birders do not take that shortcut.
As a follow up on yesterday's record sighting at 1100 along Peters Flat enroute to Riggs Lake, the huge flock was gone four hours later as we were heading home. We did see scattered small flocks as we drove but didn't stop for counts again.
For those who want to try their luck in the same area, Peters Flat is a little more than 30 miles from the intersection of US 191 and SR 366/Swift Trail south of Safford. The first 21 miles are paved and the rest is a maintained yet bumpy road but doesn't require high clearance or four-wheel-drive vehicles. More Red Crossbills than I'd ever seen plus Cassin's Finches and one Evening Grosbeak could make that trip worthwhile even if you only get a few Crossbills. Plus Roper Lake and Dankworth Pond are also along US 191 and worth staying an extra day.
Our Safford CBC is now set for Friday, December 18, so come up and join the fun.Happy Birding!Diane

Clearly, the writer of this post regarding 300 CLNU has no concept that many people who are on this list would have not a clue as to what a CLNU is. Any communication sent out On a Listserv such as Arizona’s Listserve should be clear and concise. Use the name of the species and explain where you saw them or that you saw them in numerous locations rather than just say we saw 300 of them on Mount Graham. So I personally know that that’s a Clark’s Nutcracker, since I don’t use abbreviations like that, especially talking with Birdwatchers who don’t use the abbreviations or new Birdwatchers. Then you made me think of nuthatch.
