The Reddish Egret continues this morning. I first had it at the basin just south of Lincoln Ave. Later it flushed and Jennifer Cox refound it in the Santa Ana River midway between Lincoln and Glassell. Also in the area is a Yellow-headed Blackbird and a Dunlin in the basin just north of Lincoln.

I was done birding for the morning when it flew past me at eye level coming from upriver, oddly enough, with a crow almost riding its back. As any birder who is already late to work would do, I turned around and ran after it, since I didn’t believe what I was seeing. The most recent eBird reports for this general area are from 1995 (Willick and Morris).
