I've had a lot of questions about access and sent off a couple of e-mails to a staff member about exceptions but so far, no reply. As it stands:
Non-member admission starts at 10 a.m. Members can enter at 9:00 a.m.Non-members will be charged an admissions fee. (The Garden is a private institution, not a tax-supported public park.)
The area indicated on the map is the sycamores along the creek near and below the dam. To access this spot from the entrance, you can take the Campbell Trail that starts at the Desert section, goes down to the creek and crosses the bridge, and then walk right (upstream) until you get to the dam. OR, you can walk to the head of the Meadow, take either the Indian steps or the Indian trail down to the creek, turn left through the Redwoods, until you get to the dam.
The sycamores in this spot have been good for warblers such as Townsend's in most years, so it's probably still the best spot for the golden-winged if it's still around.
