I've been enjoying the various "mountain birds visit the city" threads, but I had the opposite experience. Last weekend I was up at higher elevations in the Buena Vista area and found a grassland bird I wasn't expecting. I stopped by Clear Creek Reservoir on Sunday Oct 5 hoping to find the long staying Western Gull. To my disappointment, Larus-wise, all I found were Ring-billed Gulls. However, I was quite surprised to find a Grasshopper Sparrow, as it seemed a bit out of place, hanging out in a few shrubs on the east edge of the parking area. I checked and according to eBird it is a 2nd observation for Chaffee County with the first observation coming a few days earlier in Salida by James Bennett.
