Subject: [cobirds] Calling All Volunteers: Brown-capped Rosy-Finch Surveying!
📣 Calling all volunteers! 📣

Interested in helping preserve & understand one of Colorado's most
sought-after species? Help the Rosy-Finch Winter Project by surveying
habitats and monitoring feeders to strengthen our understanding on the
Brown-capped Rosy-Finch. Colorado’s Brown-capped Rosy-Finch is a species of
conservation concern, but there are still important gaps in our
understanding of where they spend the winter. The Rosy-Finch Winter Project
has identified key winter habitats that are currently under-sampled.

Volunteers will help fill these gaps by visiting priority habitats during
the 2026–27 non-breeding season and documenting the birds and other
relevant observations they encounter. All ages and experience levels are
invited to help survey under-sampled winter habitats across Colorado,
particularly in the mountains and along the Front Range. Experience with
rosy-finch identification is helpful but not required. Volunteers can
participate in a single survey or multiple surveys throughout the winter,
with locations and timing coordinated based on their availability and
abilities. If you’re interested in participating, please fill out the
volunteer interest form below. Volunteers that express interest will
receive follow-up information and details on surveying priorities.

This research has led to some super fascinating results (findings regarding
climate change's impact on their migration, quantitative response to
snowfall, priority habitat usage, and more!) Feel free to email
me(<colorado.birdresearch...>) for more details!
