The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission is currently looking for
public input on how to better manage menhaden in the Chesapeake Bay. A
small, nutrient-dense fish, menhaden is the key fish species Osprey feed
their chicks. However, menhaden populations are shrinking, which scientists
believe is contributing to Osprey nest failures.
There are 2 ways you can help (either approach is due by Friday October 9
at 11:59 PM ET)
Here are my answers to the survey. I used Claude AI to interpret the
proposal and asked it questions as I filled out the survey. The survey
questions refer to sections in the proposal, and each answer directs you to
a different question. All of these answers have been checked against
Aububon's answers and they align (although I think Audubon got the letter
of the first question wrong).
Section 3.1: Choose B4 (50% reduction)
Section 3.2.1: Choose B2 25% / 25% / 50%)
Section 3.2.2: Choose Option B (payback with rollover)
Section 3.2.2 (Unharvested quota): Choose “No change to Option B.”
Section 3.3 (set a timeframe to revisit): Choose B (revisit every three
years)
