Dear All,
American Bird Conservancy invites you to join us on a letter
<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScFyR4k2LGBEQepZ52ZHR9Ntk7fLveQjI55H9RwfbPJFPn4VA/viewform?usp=header> to Gov. Hochul asking her to direct the Department of Environmental
Conservation to fully and faithfully implement the Birds and Bees
Protection Act. The BBPA was passed in 2023 to protect New York’s wildlife,
habitats, and waterways from neonicotinoid insecticides by reducing use
through 3 main avenues: lawns/turf, ornamentals and woody plants, and row
crop seeds.
An exemption written into the bill to allow trained professionals to use
neonics to combat invasive pests on woody plants is being over interpreted
by the NY Department of Environmental Conservation to allow use of neonics
for any invasive pest, even when on lawns or turf.
We are asking Gov. Hochul to direct the DEC to tighten their regulations
under the law and execute it faithfully and in the spirit in which it was
passed.
