Birders:
I had a very nice couple of hours at Inspiration Point/Lightning Ridge on the north side of the San Gabriels this morning. Highlights were fly-over Evening Grosbeaks, Clark's Nutcrackers, Cassin's Finches, Pine Siskins, Williamson's Sapsuckers, and some Pinyon Jays (I guess they were flying somewhere, I never saw them), but overall there was a good variety of fall migrants in numbers that kept me busy.
Mostly, things were flying south, calling, in groups less than 5 individuals, and occasionally perching in the burned trees on their way. There were a few pulses of Yellow-rumped Warblers, juncos, and finches to about 10-15 birds. The 2 Williamson's Sapsuckers and the Brown Creeper both flew north over the saddle, but may have just been moving locally. Activity began not long after I arrived at 6:45 and things were still and quiet by 8:30.
