Official Counter: Andre Vu

Observers: Hazleton John

Visitors:
It was a busy weekday at the south lookout with 27 visitors, including a
couple celebrating the girlfriend's birthday with a photoshoot, champagne,
and other decriminalized substances. Had lots of fun listening to old
stories about the hawkwatch and getting "quigged" by peregrines with
Hazelton John.

Weather:
42-65 degrees F, weak south wind to start that slowly increased to 21 mph
gusts. Bluebird skies.

Raptor Observations:
Bald eagle (13): 1045a, 1150a, 1150a, 1227a, 1242a, 1242a, 1340a, 1342a,
1342a, 1342i, 1524a, 1527a, 1529a

A sudden peregrine flight late in the day was tons of fun to watch. They
gave amazing looks, almost all propelling themselves down the same low and
close flight line - with the exception of one immature bird putting on a
show doing aileron rolls, knocking a local red-tail out of its kiting, and
even perching in a snag.

Other highlights included an immature harrier diving at the owl pole, a
bald eagle somersaulting to dodge a red-tailed attack, and a pair of local
Cooper's hawks in an out-of-season courtship flight, white undertail
coverts flared and all.

Non-raptor Observations:
Scott Keys had 20-30 blue-headed vireos at sunrise before I arrived. Good
thing they're not called solitary vireo anymore. One daredevil
black-throated green threaded the needle right between me and John as we
stood next to each other. Also noticed a LOT of chipmunk activity on the
way up, who were probably all getting ready for winter.

Predictions:
Sunny, with a high near 72. West wind 5 to 15 mph.
