Turkey vulture report for September 2026

Hi, Tweets – While numbers were building at the end of Vancouver
Island in late September, few mentions of crossing the strait. Perhaps
the nice weather has made migration a bit late. I still don’t find
large numbers in ebird of vultures passing south through Washington
and Oregon, but by the time this report is out, I’m sure there will
be. Thanks for all the sightings from August and September.

AUGUST

26 -- 25 turkey vultures feeding on dead things on the beach between
Tokeland and Grayland, Grays Harbor County.

30 -- 17 roosting in a woodlot east of Sumas, later soared up in a
kettle and headed southwest; 20 at the Nooksack Salmon Hatchery at
noon, both in Whatcom County.

SEPTEMBER

Park, Gig Harbor at 10:30, Pierce County.

06 -- Ten at Suncadia Resort at 15:00, Kittitas County.

12 -- One turkey vulture flying south to north near Shelton View
Forest, Bothell, 14:59, Snohomish County; one at Theler Wetlands and

26 -- 200 noted w/30 crossing the strait ca 14:00 at East Sooke
Reg.Park/Hawk Lookout in B.C.

27 -- 41 at Salt Creek County Park, ca.11:00, Clallam County; six seen
plus a golden eagle from the Mount Pugh Trail in the Glacier Peak
Wilderness Area, Snohomish County.

28 -- Three turkey vultures circling & rising near Rainbow Bridge in
LaConner, ca noon, Skagit County; one above Gulf Road Beach near
Cherry Point at 11:36, Whatcom County;

NOTE: 09/30 – 500 turkey vultures estimated with many large kettles at
Beachey Head, Vancouver Island, B.C., with no mention of any crossing.
Numbers are/were very high along the small section at the end of
Vancouver Island where most of the vultures cross but no mention of
any crossings except on the 26th. The 28th was always our biggest day
at Salt Creek in years past.

Cheers, Diann
