Subject: [Arlington Birds] First Baby Birders Walk
Dear Bird Friends,
On Sunday I led the first ever Baby Birders Walk at Horn Pond for Boston
Bird Club and Menotomy Bird Club with parents and little ones (0-3yrs old).
It was pure joy. We happened to be blessed with a gorgeous Fall morning
that was crisp without being cold. There were about 20 of us with our
youngest participant a mere 2months old. We began with a mini lesson on how
to increase bird awareness from day 1, bird ID tips for babies, and
practiced bird sounds and movements. Everyone was a natural. Next, we
walked, strollered and leisurely ambled up the gravel path from Sturgis st
where we saw many of the usual suspects (cardinals, jays, mallards, swans,
GBHs etc.) with an abundance of appreciation and excitement one can forget
for these special birds without the presence of children. A cherry on top
included a small flock of Yellow-rumped warblers in a tree about eye level
that was almost everyone's first warbler. But the best part about the walk
was the sense of community amongst families from different towns united in
our interest in nature, birds, and tiny creatures. One small, sweet,
participant wearing a snowy owl costume serenaded us with "hoo-hoo-ing" for
the entire walk. It was perfect. What a success.

I am hoping to lead another Baby Birders walk in late April/May 2027, and
perhaps a winter walk if I have the courage. If you are interested in
joining, feel free to respond and let me know. I can add you to the mailing
list. The flyer for this walk is attached for your info.

Happy Birding!
