Total observation time: 9 hours

Official Counter: Julie Brown, Phil Brown

Observers: Chuck Carlson, David Wiedner, Julie Brown, Phil Brown,
Tom Delaney, Tom Momeyer

Visitors:
156 in total; lots of hawk watch friends and general visitors for a
Tuesday, but what a spectacular day to enjoy the views! 11 students and
associated chaperones from Country Village Montessouri School in Amherst NH
came out to learn about migration and had some great answers and questions.
Thanks to Justin from MA for spotting birds with us in the am, and welcome,
Maureen and Bill from Hanover NH. Great to see Jon, Cheryl, Tom, Seth, and
Adria. Big thanks to David W for keeping watch in the 8 am hour.

Weather:
Moderate winds from the WNW all day, and blue skies with cloud cover
limited to a sliver of horizon in northern NH.
Cool with temps starting at 34 F and topping out at just 46 F. Snow cover
spotted on Mount Lafayette later in the day!

Raptor Observations:
Low numbers overall, but nice diversity, with all regular accips and
falcons observed migrating. Many birds were far today and stayed below
horizon with the strong winds out of the west. However, a few standouts
today included two close peregrines near the end of the day (one trying to
eat a butterfly), a merlin zipping by Gina the plastic owl, two early
harriers migrating together, and a fairly close osprey following the path
one took hours earlier before 9 am.

Non-raptor Observations:
The raven show was in full effect for the many visitors who came to watch
hawks and peep leaves. Low numbers of passerines today, with pine siskins
(5) being the highlight.
Monarchs: 6/836
Blue Jays: 3

Predictions:
Winds from the SW seem a little less promising on paper, but if wind isn't
too strong, it's worth a visit. Even if not, come to see the foliage and
visit with Nate!
