Cedar Waxwings have begun their annual fall visit to our backyard EasternRedcedars. They gulp down the berrylike, seed cones that produce a blue wash across the trees. Watching them darting betweentrees in groups reinforced the common description for their gregarious nature. I had to smile as I observed a dozen perchedshoulder to shoulder along a horizontal branch in the early morning sun. Their gentle character was contrasted by ourlocal mockingbirds that attempted to chase them along.
