A fantastic north county bird, a young Reddish Egret is dancing around here (33.8237193, -117.8682754) in the main basin. I was done birding for the morning when it flew past me at eye level coming from upriver, oddly enough, with a crow almost riding its back. As any birder who is already late to work would do, I turned around and ran after it, since I didn’t believe what I was seeing. The most recent eBird reports for this general area are from 1995 (Willick and Morris).
