My first thought was pelicans.

She usually canoes on Pickerel Lake near Pinckney. She said she just happened to look up at the right time, so they could have been seen from quite a long ways away…

Where was she canoeing? White pelicans are probably the best answer, especially if she was close to Lake Erie in SE MI, but snow geese might be a possibility too. It's probably a bit early for them though.

Hi everyone,
This is a long shot inquiry…..
My daughter was canoeing today and saw a group of about 20 birds “way up there”- very high flying in formation. She said they were white with dark wing tips and is wondering what they might have been. She looked in the birding books and her best guess was white pelicans…
Any thoughts?
Thanks!
