Eventually it landed on a dead tree on the lake side of the loop and I was able to get some closer looks. Much smaller the nearby Cassin’s kingbird on the same tree. Gray back and wings, red-orange belly + patches on face and head. One of my favorite desert species - I am delighted to see one here! Continuing individual first observed by Tom Edell on 9/30/2026. Baltimore Oriole (Icterus galbula) (1) CONFIRMED
- Reported Oct 02, 2026 10:00 by Kaaren Perry
- Morro Bay yard, San Luis Obispo, California

- Comments: "My first impression of this bird when see moving in the brush was of a medium sized orange bird. Photos do not capture the true color. Bill medium sized, no apparent eye line or superciilum, two distinct wing bars showing no saw-tooth markings on upper bar as would be expected on BUOR , orange-yellowish underparts and orange rump. These were the most convincing field marks to identify this species and to eliminate the similar Bullock's Oriole."

It then flew in the direction of the bridge and was observed again in the underbrush down-creek from the Van Gordon Creek Road vehicle bridge. This could have been a second bird, but two birds were never seen at the same time."
