My sunflower seed feeder was visited this afternoon about 1:30 by a
flock of red crossbills. There was much coming and going and jostling
but I guessed there were perhaps 8-10 or more of them, males, females,
juveniles - six or seven birds at a time on my tiny feeder that's inside
a protective chicken-wire globe.
I didn't know crossbills visited feeders but just read on Cornell that
they occasionally do. I live out Hwy 20 near Jackson State, so being
near the conifers, including pines and dougfir, made it more likely to
see them at my feeder.
