Observation start time: 09:00:00 Observation end time: 15:00:00 Total observation time: 6 hours
Official Counter: Rob Woodward
Observers:
Visitors: Busy, 57. One nice lady, upon learning that I was hawk watching, asked me if I was from the Harris Center. "No," I answered, "but I know Phil Brown." "I do too," she answered. "How many times have you been to Costa Rica?" I asked. "Only once, but", she gushed, "my next trip I'm going to Ireland with Eric Masterson!"
Weather: A cloudless sky all day; light W winds turning NW by 9:30 then calm at 2:00; warm, 54 - 71 F.
Raptor Observations: A falcon trifecta day. Still more American Kestrels, last week a new season high count was reached, a Peregrine worked hard past Mt Major, plus a Merlin for good measure. Of the 14 Turkey Vultures present, 4 were good migrants. Sharp-shins showed most hours.
Non-raptor Observations: First White-throated Sparrows of the season, a flock of Canada Geese southbound, bluebirds, siskin, and 49 Yellow-rumped Warblers. 1 Monarch.
Predictions: And this just in: the Forest Society is going to conduct a controlled burn at the Morse Preserve next week that could shut me down for a few days. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Rob Woodward (<toucanrob...>)
