Bake Oven Knob 2 miles North of Germansville, Pennsylvania, USA Daily Raptor Counts: Oct 02, 2026 -------------------------------------------------------------------
Observation start time: 08:00:00 Observation end time: 14:00:00 Total observation time: 6 hours
Official Counter: Andre Vu
Observers: Tim Williams
Visitors: 19 visitors today, especially later in the day. Joined by Tim Williams for a couple hours this afternoon, who was great to hang out with while the raptors were slow and fun to bird with when they picked up.
Weather: Foggy in the morning, cleared up at 9 am local time to hazy 20 miles of visibility all day (most days 30+ miles visible). Unexpectedly hard rain ended count at 3 pm local time. 71-76 degrees F, variable SW wind peaking at 14 mph gusts.
Raptor Observations: Bald eagle (5): 1235a, 1310i, 1314a, 1314u, 1340a
Early trickle of sharpies in the morning gave way to an afternoon parade of eagles along the north side of the ridge, unexpected in this SW wind.
Non-raptor Observations: My personal best looks ever at a yellow-billed cuckoo today. Watched it fly in, check us out in an eye level sapling, and eat a fall webworm caterpillar. A couple interesting dragonflies I couldn't ID, 2 walking sticks, and stinkbug apocalypse day 3.
Predictions: Mostly sunny, with a high near 70. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Lehigh Gap Nature Center (<mail...>) Bake Oven Knob information may be found at: www.lgnc.org
