The Flicker family here in Bloomfield Hills is still with us. In addition to Downy and Red-belly woodpeckers we have Hairy. PUC keeps reporting Pileated, but have actually seen one only once.
 Still hoping the Swifts will do us the honor of a sleepover in one of the neighboring chimneys. Last year we noted them into the first two weeks of October, so fingers crossed.
In a message dated 10/2/2026 10:09:47 AM Eastern Daylight Time, <birders...> writes: Yesterday I had Downeys and Red-Bellied woodpeckers visit.  The Flickers left my yard weeks ago.  I saw all three species feeding young this year.  I only saw one each Red-Bellied and Flicker, but judging by the succession of rust-colored head feathers that appeared at the suet feeder, there were three different broods of Downeys this year. We also had a successful nest of Chimney Swifts.  I only found one egg shell in the fireplace. Lynn in west Dearborn
